About us

South East London Vision (SELVIS) is a registered charity that supports people living with sight loss in Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark. We ensure they can live independent lives and access high quality services when and where they need them.

We want to make sure everyone living in south east London has access to good eye care and excellent support services.

Local people living with sight loss shaped our services. We:

  • • provide information to help you live with sight loss
  • • connect you to others at our social support groups, events and activities
  • • work in partnership with other organisations
  • • campaign to make things better for you

No one should be lonely or isolated so we’ve established a network of support groups and social groups for people with sight loss.

We want people with a sight loss to feel the best they can about their situation. Coming to our informal groups where people can share their experiences of living with sight loss often helps achieve this. We’ll deliver more formal sessions of peer support over 2017 and 2018. If you need in-depth emotional support, we’ll tell you where and how to access counselling services.

It’s important to us that people with sight loss have choices, so we provide information about our services and other services that can help. We want people to call and ask questions about the wide range of services available. In 2017 and 2018 we’ll host information clinics, where we’ll provide information tailored to meet your needs.

We want people living with sight loss to live as independently as they can. We’re happy to talk to you about some of the simple ways to make life a little easier. We’ll explain about the specialist equipment that’s available to you. We’ll connect you to people who can provide specialist training if you need it.

Too many people living with sight loss don’t know about the benefits and concessions available to them. We’ll tell you about the variety of benefits available. We’re not welfare benefits experts but we can put you in touch with people who are. Wherever possible, we’ll help you fill out your benefits applications. If we can’t help, we’ll find someone who can.

Our partners

Across south east London theres excellent statutory provision for people living with sight loss from the borough’s sensory service teams, Inspire community trust in Bexley and KAB in Bromley. Our services are designed to bring added value and support the statutory offer.

We work with other national and local sight loss charities including RNIB, Guide Dogs and Bromley talking news.

SELVIS is supported by the Thomas Pocklington Trust, which gives us access to detailed research and an excellent pool of volunteers.

Our campaigns

We want to make things better for people with sight loss so we support the campaigns organised by RNIB Guide Dogs and Thomas Pocklington Trust. We want to campaign at a community level, so if you need a new crossing or there are plans for a floating bus stop near or youre having difficulty in your GP surgery because of digital displays please get in touch.
